About

Founded in 1997 by Amy Stetson ’00 with the help of Emily Schaller ’02…

'The Dartmouth Figure Skating team has achieved great successes in its short history — an unprecedented five consecutive National Championship titles (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and another title in 2012. The team has qualified for the National Collegiate Figure Skating Team Championships every year since 2000.

As an officially recognized US Figure Skating Collegiate Club, we compete in all levels of freestyle and solo dance events in the Northeastern Collegiate Conference. We skate in three qualifying competitions each season with the goal of qualifying for Nationals. Dartmouth's Club Sports program provides training ice on campus at Thompson Arena and our professional coaching staff oversees training.

Integral to the creation of the team and to our achievements was the coaching of Michael McGean '49 and his daughter Loren McGean '92, who both worked with the team from its inception through the 2008 season. Since Mr. McGean's passing in 2011, the team has skated in honor of the incredible effort and love that he poured in to the program. The McGeans also developed essential support for the team through the “Friends of Dartmouth Figure Skating” group and the Michael McGean endowment. Coached by Jacki Smith, the team won Nationals in 2012, hosted The National Championships in 2013, and placed second and third in the nation in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

The Dartmouth Figure Skating Club carries its tradition of excellence around campus and in the classroom. With a team of over 20 skaters, cohesiveness is essential both on and off the ice. Skaters support one another throughout campus life, even when their skates are off. The team is excited for the 2022-2023 season!
